To tell the truth, this homemade dish reminds me a lot of a trip I took to Germany years ago. I was in Frankfurt am Main during the Christmas holidays and I remember that my friends, my partner, and I dined at a typical place in the city center where the atmosphere was fantastic. Besides, we ordered several dishes, and one in particular I remember well, which was a mix of German sausages with a side of sauerkraut that I tried to reproduce in this recipe I’m about to propose to you. In this way, my sausages with braised cabbage are mainly a reinterpretation because sauerkraut, by their conception, should be fermented, unlike what I have done. Anyway, I think the result was not bad at all!

Ingredients
- 1 cabbage
- to taste extra virgin olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic
- to taste white wine
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup white vinegar
- 1 tbsp sugar
- to taste salt
- 4 sausages
- to taste mustard
Tools
- Air Fryer
Steps
Through these simple steps, I’ll explain easily how to make your sausages with braised cabbage.
To start, finely chop the cabbage with a knife
Then, heat the oil in a large saucepan and add the crushed garlic cloves, then let it flavor for a few minutes
Next, add the chopped cabbage and stir to coat it completely. Add more oil if necessary
Then deglaze with the white wine until all the alcohol has evaporated. Add salt and stir again
At this point, add the water and let it cook on low heat with the lid on for at least 40 minutes (add the vinegar and sugar about halfway through the cooking)
Once the cabbage is prepared, you can proceed to cooking the sausages, cooking them in an air fryer for about 30 minutes at 320°F (time may vary based on the type of sausage chosen)
To complete, plate by placing the cabbage on the plate with the perfectly cooked sausages next to it
Finally, accompany everything with a mustard sauce that will give your dish that typical touch of German cuisine
Tip!
By the way, you can also cook your sausages on the grill or in a pan. If you prefer, you can also avoid giving the cabbage a sweet and sour flavor by not adding vinegar and sugar.
