Ingredients
- 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 tbsp granulated sugar (plus extra for final coating)
- 0.42 cup milk
- 0.7 oz vegetable oil
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 packet vanillin
- lemon zest (to taste)
- 1 pinch salt
- vegetable oil (as needed for frying)
Tools
- Bowl
- Frying Pan
- Slotted Spoon
- Cookie Cutter 2 inches in diameter
- Rolling Pin
Steps
Place the flour, sugar, vanillin, baking powder, lemon zest, and pinch of salt in a bowl and mix with a spoon. Then add the oil and milk and knead until you get a smooth and homogeneous dough.
Dust the work surface with a little flour and roll out the dough with the rolling pin to a thickness of 0.39 inches. Cut out circles using a 2-inch diameter cookie cutter or a glass of the same size. Then make a smaller hole in the center of each circle using a smaller cookie cutter or the nozzle of a pastry bag.
Place the obtained donuts on a tray or baking sheet covered with parchment paper and cover with a cloth or plastic wrap. Gather the scraps, knead them again, and cut out more donuts as you did before.
Heat plenty of vegetable oil in a non-stick frying pan. As soon as the oil reaches the right temperature, dip the donuts. To check if the oil is at temperature, dip a toothpick. If small bubbles form, you can start frying.
Fry the donuts on both sides until they are golden brown. Then drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
Right after draining them of excess oil, pass them in granulated sugar and serve.
