Soft and buttery, pandoro is delicious on its own, but it’s also a great base for experimenting with endless ideas. After the pandoro log with Nutella I couldn’t resist trying the pandoro dome cake. An incredibly easy dessert to prepare, delicious, with a mascarpone cream that you can whip up in 5 minutes, perfect for festive occasions or giving a new life to leftover pandoro if you’ve received too many.

  • Electric Whisks

Steps for preparing the pandoro dome cake

  • Work the very cold cream with the sugar. When it’s semi-whipped, add the mascarpone and continue working with the electric whisks until you obtain a thick foam. Set the cream aside and prepare the coffee. Let it cool.

  • Slice the pandoro into star shapes. Line a glass bowl with plastic wrap. Place a star of pandoro at the base and arrange the sides of the dome cake with other slices. Moisten with coffee. Add a first layer of mascarpone cream, sprinkle with unsweetened cocoa powder.

  • Place a second slice of pandoro to cover the cream and moisten with coffee. Make several layers until the bowl is full. Set aside a little cream for the topping. Close with a slice of pandoro and refrigerate for at least 3-4 hours, preferably overnight.

  • Invert the bowl onto a cutting board or plate. Remove the plastic wrap and cover the dome cake with the reserved mascarpone cream. Just before serving, dust with unsweetened cocoa powder.

Storage

You can store the dome cake in the refrigerator for a couple of days.
