Soft Ring Cake with Nutella Heart

The soft ring cake with Nutella heart is one of those desserts that everyone agrees on: simple to make, as soft as a cloud, with a creamy filling that remains irresistible even after baking. Perfect for breakfast, a snack, or as a Sunday dessert, it’s a recipe that wins for its ease and always impeccable result.
The batter is the classic one for soft ring cakes: eggs beaten for a long time, melted butter, milk, and sifted flour. The heart of creamy Nutella adds that greedy touch that makes it special, but you can replace it with jam if you prefer a lighter version. A versatile, quick recipe ideal for those who love soft and genuine desserts.

  • Electric Whisks
  • Hand Whisks
  • Ring Cake Pan 8.7 inches

Preparation steps for the soft ring cake with Nutella heart

  • Break the eggs into a bowl and beat them with an electric whisk along with the sugar until you get a light and fluffy cream. Add the melted butter and continue to work it. Incorporate the sifted flour with the baking powder, 1/3 cup of milk, salt, and vanilla. Mix with a hand whisk until you get a smooth and lump-free batter.

  • Grease a 8.7-inch cake pan and pour 3/4 of the batter into it. In a small bowl, mix the Nutella with the remaining milk to make it more fluid, then pour it in the center of the batter. Cover with the remaining mixture, leveling gently.

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and bake the cake for 40–45 minutes. Once ready, let it cool completely before removing it from the pan. Finish with a sprinkle of powdered sugar.

Variations, Tips, and Storage

Variations
Replace Nutella with jam for a lighter version.
Add chocolate chips to the batter for an even more indulgent result.
Use clarified butter for a more fragrant cake.

Tips
Beat the eggs well: it is the secret to a soft cake.
If the Nutella is too thick, slightly warm it up or add a tablespoon of milk.
Do not open the oven in the first 30 minutes of baking.

Storage
Store the cake under a glass bell for 3–4 days.
It stays soft for a long time thanks to the creamy heart.

  • Can I use another filling instead of Nutella?

Yes, you can replace Nutella with jam, pistachio spread, white hazelnut cream, or fruit preserves. Choose fillings that are thick enough so they do not sink too much during baking.

How do I keep the cake soft for several days?
Store the soft cake under a glass bell or in an airtight container, at room temperature, away from heat sources. The Nutella heart helps keep it soft for 3–4 days.

Does the Nutella remain creamy after baking?
Yes, if you do not overcook it and slightly fluidize it with a splash of milk, the Nutella heart remains soft and creamy even after baking.

Can I prepare the batter the day before?
Better not: the baking powder batter should be cooked immediately to make the most of the leavening. However, you can prepare the ingredients in advance and have them already weighed.

Can I use oil instead of butter?
Yes, you can replace butter with a neutral flavor vegetable oil. The consistency will remain soft, but the taste will be slightly different, lighter and less “buttery”.

Can you freeze the ring cake with Nutella heart?

Yes, you can freeze it already sliced. Wrap each slice in plastic wrap and then put it in a freezer bag. To enjoy it, let it thaw at room temperature or heat it for a few seconds in the microwave.
