DECORATED CHRISTMAS COOKIES

The decorated Christmas cookies: delicious and delightful sweets.

Perfect for gifting, hanging on the tree, or eating. They are prepared with a shortcrust pastry base and classic Christmas shapes: stars, Christmas trees, gingerbread men, etc. Once baked in the oven, you can leave them as they are, with a simple dusting of powdered sugar or decorate them with Royal Icing, as in this case, embroidered with sprinkles.

Fragrant and crumbly, they melt in your mouth. Would you like to prepare them at home? Here is the recipe, tricks, and tips. The preparation is simple, just need a bit of time. The dough is a shortcrust pastry for cookies; you can use any cookie cutters you like. It’s important that the pastry is cold and hard to cut the cookies better, and once baked, they should be left to cool to decorate perfectly

Decorated Christmas Cookies Steps

  • Here you can find the recipe for shortcrust pastry for cookies. Roll out the dough on a floured work surface to a thickness of about 3/16 inches. Then cut the shapes and place the same size shapes on the same baking tray lined with parchment paper. If you want, you can now make holes at the top of the cookie to hang them on the tree.

  • Let the cookies dry perfectly, about an hour, before wrapping or hanging them on the Christmas tree. Put in the fridge for 15 minutes, if you have multiple trays, put them in the oven one at a time for 12 minutes at 356°F, if the cookies are small, 9 minutes will suffice. Finally, let cool for at least 3 hours

  • Here is the recipe for royal icing. Mix well without leaving lumps; it should be thick. If it’s too soft, add a pinch of powdered sugar or one drop of lemon otherwise. If you need to color it, divide it into different bowls for each color and cover with plastic wrap to prevent drying. Transfer the icing into a piping bag with a thin nozzle; it’s good to have one piping bag per color and start decorating

  • Let’s decorate the cookies. Set up on a stable and spacious work surface. If you have multiple colors, always start with white, allow to dry completely (about 30 minutes), then add the other color. For the stars shown in the photo, before the icing dries completely, add the sprinkles using a toothpick. Finally, let dry completely overnight; the decorations should be hard, opaque, and completely dry
