Puff pastry and Nutella bunnies: a small Easter sweet that’s very easy to make and adorable to look at.
The tradition of Easter bunnies
Chocolate Easter bunnies are a widespread tradition around the world, rooted in ancient pagan rites connected to fertility and springtime. The rabbit was considered a symbol of fecundity and rebirth. Over time, this tradition became associated with Christian Easter, turning into a way to celebrate the holiday and give a sweet gift to both children and adults.
Puff pastry and Nutella are a delicious combination, which I also used to make Nutella puff pastry pinwheels, very tasty and fun to prepare. It took me a few tries to figure out how to shape the bunnies, but in the end I succeeded and I’m really proud of them.
You’ll see they’re not complicated once you know the steps, and they’re quick — if you have kids, you’ll have a blast. Very few ingredients: puff pastry and Nutella, a bit of handiwork and you’re done. I almost forgot — they’re fantastic to snack on!

Ingredients
- 1 package puff pastry
- 5 oz (about 1/2 cup) Nutella®
- 2 tsp milk
Tools
- Pizza cutter Professional Round Pizza Cutter Wheel, 27 in wheel, Stainless Steel Blade with Nonstick Coating, Silicone Non-Slip Handle, for Pizza, Cakes and Pies, Waffles, Bread — Dishwasher Safe
- Parchment paper Cuki Parchment Paper Sheets 13 x 15 in – 25 sheets – 1 pack
Steps
Roll out the puff pastry. On one half, spread the Nutella, leaving a border of about 3/8 in. Close with the other half of the pastry, using the pastry paper to help. Seal the edges with a fork.
Using a pizza cutter, cut the pastry into narrow strips — you’ll get about 6–8 strips running from one side to the other. Take each strip, shape it like a horseshoe, then twist it twice to create the form you see above: an open circle at the bottom with the two ends curled up toward the top. While doing this, make sure the strip is positioned so you can see the Nutella.
Place the little bunnies on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, brush the pastry with the milk, and bake in a preheated oven at 356°F for about 15 minutes, or until the pastry is golden. Let cool and add the tails — I used small white meringue drops, glued on with a little Nutella.
Storage for puff pastry and Nutella bunnies
It’s important to store them in a cool, dry place away from heat sources and direct light.
