Crunchy chia seed crackers with spices in an air fryer are the perfect snack for anyone looking for a healthy, light, and flavorful recipe. Made with a few simple and natural ingredients, they combine the nourishing power of chia seeds with the crunchiness of mixed seeds, such as flax and sunflower.
Thanks to the natural gel produced by chia seeds in contact with water, these crackers do not need flour or eggs in the dough, and for spices, we chose pepper and ginger for a spicy and slightly pungent aroma, but you can easily customize them with herbs, curry, paprika, or rosemary.
The air fryer is the real ally of this recipe: it cooks the crackers evenly, with very little oil and in a short time, making them crisp and golden without the need for a traditional oven. The result is a tasty snack, rich in fiber, omega-3, and vegetable proteins, perfect for snacking during the day or serving as a side to hummus, dips, and fresh cheeses.

- Parchment Paper
Steps for Preparing and Cooking Crunchy Chia Seed Crackers with Spices in Air Fryer:
In a bowl, place the chia seeds, mixed seeds (we used sesame, flax, pumpkin, and sunflower, but you can use any seeds you prefer), add spices to your taste and a pinch of salt, stir well, then add the oil and water and mix well, cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a cloth and let it rest for 25/30 minutes, this way the chia seeds in contact with water form a gel.
After the resting time, mix the mixture well, then take a rectangular pan suitable for the air fryer, line it with parchment paper and make a thin layer of mixture, spreading it well with the back of a spoon (with this quantity we made two trays measuring 22×30 cm – approximately 8.5×12 in).
Cooking in the air fryer:
Preheat the air fryer to 338°F for a few minutes, then insert the tray and cook at 338°F for about 25 minutes, until the mixture is crunchy.
If you have a fryer with dual heating elements and have made thin crackers, turning them will not be necessary. Otherwise, 5 minutes before the end of cooking, gently turn the preparation with a spatula: this way the bottom will also stay crunchy.
Remove the tray from the air fryer and, while still hot, cut the crackers; then let them cool completely. With the given dose, you need to do a double cooking, following the same procedure each time.
For oven cooking:
Line the oven tray with parchment paper, make a thin layer of mixture (sufficient for one tray) and then bake in a preheated oven at 356°F for 30/35 minutes until crunchy, using the fan setting there’s no need to turn the preparation.
