  • 8 steamed chestnuts
  • 3 tablespoons Nutella®
  • to taste milk
  • to taste brown sugar
  • to taste powdered sugar

  • 1 Cookie Cutter
  • 1 Piping Bag
  • 1 Brush silicone
  • 1 Baking Tray

Steps for preparing and cooking the puff pastry treats filled with chestnuts and Nutella:

  • For this recipe, we used steamed chestnuts prepared by us. Alternatively, you can purchase pre-cooked ones which are easily found in supermarkets.

  • Unroll the puff pastry and use a cookie cutter to cut out 2.8-inch diameter discs. Re-knead the pastry scraps to make more discs. We got 16 discs, which corresponds to 8 treats.

  • On half of the discs, make three small central cuts to allow steam to escape during cooking and to reveal the filling.

On the other discs (the whole ones), place a tuft of Nutella in the center using a piping bag: this way, the filling will be well-measured and tidy.
Then add a chestnut on top of the cream.

  • Cover each filled disc with one of those with cuts and gently press the edges with your fingers or the tines of a fork to seal well.
Brush the surface with milk for an even golden finish.
    Cooking:
Bake in a preheated oven at 356°F for about 15 minutes until puffed and golden.

For air fryer cooking, set to 338°F for 10/12 minutes until golden, placing them directly on the air fryer rack.
Let cool for a few minutes before dusting with powdered sugar, if desired.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

  • Can I use chestnut cream instead of boiled chestnuts?

Yes, if you prefer a sweeter and more uniform taste, you can replace the crumbled chestnuts with a teaspoon of chestnut cream for each treat.

  • How do I store the treats?

They keep for 2 days at room temperature, covered with a cake dome. You can briefly warm them in the oven to make them crisp again.

  • Can they be frozen?

It’s best to freeze them raw, already formed and well sealed: you just need to bake them directly from frozen, adding 3-4 minutes to the cooking time.

  • Can I use another spread instead of Nutella?

Sure! Hazelnut, pistachio, or dark chocolate spreads work perfectly.
