Sandwich bread made with the bread machine is a practical and reliable basic recipe, designed for those who want a soft, fluffy, evenly textured loaf at home without kneading by hand or constantly checking rising and baking. Thanks to the bread machine, the procedure is simple and suitable even for those with little time or experience, yet who do not want to compromise on the quality of a homemade product.
This bread features a compact yet light crumb, easy to slice and ideal for holding fillings without falling apart. It is perfect for classic tea sandwiches, sandwiches, toast and soft rolls, both savory and sweet. Baking directly in the bread machine produces a regular shape and an even texture, which is very convenient when you want identical slices.
It is a versatile base that is also good for preparing in advance: once cooled, the loaf can be sliced and stored or frozen, ready to use for various occasions.
This recipe does not include eggs, to produce a more neutral and versatile bread, perfect for everyday use.

Steps for sandwich bread with the bread machine:
Place the ingredients in the bread machine pan in the following order: first the liquids — the milk and then the water — then the butter cut into pieces. Add the flour, sugar and salt, distributing them around the sides of the pan. Finally add the dry yeast, avoiding direct contact with the salt.
Select the program for wholemeal bread or the basic bread program. We use the wholemeal program because it provides longer rising times and helps produce a softer, well-developed loaf. Set the loaf size to 1.65 lb (750 g) and the crust to light, then start the bread machine. At the end of the program, remove the loaf from the pan and let it cool completely on a wire rack; then cover it with a cloth if you don’t use it immediately. If you plan to consume it the next day, place it in a sealed food bag.
Once cooled, the bread is ready to be used for tea sandwiches, sandwiches or toast.
Slice it into pieces about 1/3 in (8–9 mm) thick using a serrated bread knife.
