Spiced flatbread chips in an air fryer are a crunchy, light, and surprisingly simple snack to make. With just a few ingredients and a few minutes of cooking, you can transform a flatbread into a delightful appetizer or perfect finger food to share.
For this recipe, we chose to use our homemade Romagna flatbread with lard, following the most authentic tradition. This detail makes the chips even better, as they start from a fragrant and tasty base, already rich in flavor. Of course, you can also make them with wholemeal flatbreads, without lard, or pre-packaged ones, depending on your preferences or what you have available.
The process is really easy: just cut the flatbread into wedges or strips, season it with a drizzle of oil and your favorite spices, and cook it in the air fryer. In a few minutes, you’ll get golden and crunchy chips like nachos, but lighter and healthier, thanks to cooking with very little oil and no frying.
We enriched them with dried rosemary and sweet paprika, a combination that combines the scent of Mediterranean herbs with the color and sweetness of paprika. But you can really get creative: smoked paprika for a bold taste, curry for an exotic touch, oregano to recall Italian tradition, or simply black pepper for some character.
For those who don’t like spices or can’t use them, the basic version with just oil and salt is perfect, simple but always irresistible.
Whether you serve them as an aperitif, as a substitute for classic crackers, or simply for a snack in front of the TV, spiced flatbread chips in an air fryer will become a go-to recipe to make again and again.

Steps for preparing and cooking spiced flatbread chips in air fryer:
Cut the flatbread into slices about 2 inches wide, then each strip into triangles, like nachos.
Place them in a bowl and season with extra virgin olive oil, salt, and spices: we used rosemary and sweet paprika, but you can use whatever spices you prefer, such as oregano, smoked paprika, curry, black pepper.
Mix well to ensure they are all well-flavored.
Arrange the flatbread pieces directly on the air fryer’s grill in a single layer without overlapping. Cook at 356°F for 6–8 minutes (no need to preheat the fryer), turning them halfway through cooking, until golden and crispy. Serve immediately as a snack, appetizer, or accompaniment to dips and spreads.
Non-spicy variant
For those intolerant to spices, the chips can be made with only extra virgin olive oil and salt. A tasty alternative is to sprinkle them with a bit of grated parmesan in the last 2 minutes of cooking.
