Sugar-Free Cinnamon Banana Chips in Air Fryer.

The sugar-free cinnamon banana chips in an air fryer are one of those snacks that win you over at the first bite: crunchy, naturally sweet, and perfect any time of the day. In this version, we chose to prepare them without added sugars, using only not too ripe bananas, a drizzle of seed oil, and a generous touch of cinnamon, both before and after cooking.
It’s a simple, quick, and suitable recipe for everyone: for those following a healthy diet, for those mindful of calories, but also for those who want to offer a tasty snack to children without resorting to industrial snacks. Plus, with the air fryer, there’s no need to turn on the oven or use large amounts of oil: about 20 minutes are enough to get golden and perfectly crispy chips.
One of the most interesting aspects of this preparation is its versatility. You can flavor the chips as you prefer: I love cinnamon, but you can also use ginger powder, vanilla, or why not, a pinch of unsweetened cocoa. If you love contrasts, try a savory version with slightly unripe bananas and a touch of salt or paprika: guaranteed tropical chip effect!
My recipe is designed to be without added sugars, but if you desire a sweeter result, you can add a teaspoon of erythritol or coconut sugar before cooking.
Perfect for a mid-morning break, as a yogurt accompaniment, or as a post-workout snack.

Steps for preparing and cooking sugar-free cinnamon banana chips in air fryer:

  • Peel the bananas, remove the strings, and slice them into thin rounds, placing them in a large bowl.

Add the vegetable oil and cinnamon (amount to taste based on your preferences), mix well, being careful not to break them.

  • Arrange the slices on the air fryer grill, close to each other without overlapping too much, cook at 300°F for 15 minutes, flipping them halfway through cooking. After the time has passed, increase the temperature to 345°F for 5 minutes, until they are golden and crispy.

  • After cooking, add another sprinkle of cinnamon, let them cool before consuming.

Notes:

For oven cooking, place banana slices on a non-stick baking sheet in a single layer and bake at 285°F for about an hour (turning them halfway through), towards the end of cooking, slightly open the oven door to let out moisture and achieve more crispiness.

FAQ (Questions and Answers)

  • Can I use very ripe bananas?

Better not, for a perfect result, the bananas should not be too ripe, so they don’t release too much moisture and remain nicely crispy.

  • Is it necessary to use oil?

No, but a bit of oil helps make them crispy, improves cooking, and prevents them from sticking too much to each other. If you prefer, you can spray the oil.

  • How long do homemade banana chips last?

2-3 days in an airtight container at room temperature but I assure you they’ll be gone quickly.

  • Can I use the air fryer without a grill?

It’s better with the grill, we’ve tried with and without, and those cooked on the grill remained much crisper and drier.

  • Can green bananas be used?

Absolutely yes, perfect if combined with spicy spices or salt.

  • What alternative seasonings can I use to flavor chips?

For the sweet version: unsweetened cocoa powder, ginger powder, nutmeg, erythritol, or coconut sugar. For the savory version: sweet or smoked paprika, curry, salt, and pepper.
