The monster cookies are delightful shortbread bites, a fun idea for celebrating a spooky night! Nothing scary, but an easy and tasty recipe that even children can enjoy making. For the shortbread, I used my classic butter recipe, and once baked, the fun began; in fact, they were made with the handy Paneangeli cocoa glaze, Paneangeli cocoa sprinkles, and Paneangeli chocolate chips, with which I made the eyes and the hair. Besides being cute, they are also delicious and versatile, they can be decorated well in advance, remaining crumbly for several days.

How to make monster cookies
In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, add the flour, along with the sugar, baking powder, grated orange zest, and egg. Turn on the mixer and work for a few minutes, then add the butter cut into pieces and mix again.
Once everything is compacted, transfer it to the work surface, then work by hand until you get a soft and blended dough. Wrap it in plastic wrap and let rest for 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
After the resting time, roll out the shortbread dough with the rolling pin to a thickness of about 1/5 inch and, with the help of a ruler, form rectangular cookies with dimensions of 1.5×2.8 inches.
Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake at 350°F in static mode for about 10 minutes. Meanwhile, prepare the white glaze for the eyes: Put the sugar in a small bowl, add the water and mix to obtain a fairly thick glaze.
Once the cookies are baked, using a skewer stick, make the eyes with the prepared glaze and then place the chocolate chips to make the pupils.
Prepare the Paneangeli cocoa glaze by bringing water to a boil in a saucepan, turn it off, and then immerse the packet for 7/8 minutes.
For the mouth, dip a toothpick in the glaze and draw the expression on the face.
For the hair, make the base with the same cocoa glaze, and dip the heads of the cookies in the cocoa sprinkles.
