Air Fryer Caramel Apples

Air fryer caramel apples are one of those desserts that can be made in a few minutes and have become my favorite evening treat.

Very easy to make and very economical, this delicious dessert is prepared by coring the apple, which is usually filled with brown sugar, raisins, and a few other ingredients.

The great thing about caramel apples is that they can be cooked in advance and then warmed up in the microwave for a few seconds or in a bain-marie, and served as a dessert, a sweet evening treat, or in the morning for breakfast or a snack.

Thanks to the air fryer cooking, the cooking times are cut in half, and the caramel that forms during cooking becomes an irresistible delight.

As you will see by reading the ingredients, I use very little sugar and the final result, thanks to the natural sweetness of the apples, is really pleasant and not overly sweet.

Ingredients

  • 2 apples
  • 1 teaspoon raw brown sugar
  • ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons hazelnut crumbs

Tools

  • Apple Corer

Steps

  • Wash and dry the apples, then cut off the tops and set them aside.

  • Using the apple corer, scoop out the apples without going all the way through to prevent the filling from leaking out.

  • Prepare the filling with brown sugar, cinnamon, and hazelnut crumbs, mixing to combine the ingredients.

  • Fill the apple cavities, sprinkle with cinnamon to taste, and close with the tops. (To prevent the tops from falling off, you can insert a toothpick, which will need to be removed after cooking).

  • Place the apples in the air fryer basket and cook at 356°F for about 20 minutes. (For oven cooking, allow almost double the time).

  • Outside of the fryer, garnish with a little hazelnut crumbs and cinnamon.

Tips and Tricks:

If the stems come off from the tops, do not discard them but use them to decorate the apples at the end of cooking by repositioning them.

The caramel that forms during cooking can be used to drizzle over the apples. If you have containers suitable for the air fryer, use them during cooking so it will be easier to recover the caramel.

Storage:

If you don’t consume them immediately, store the apples in the refrigerator and then heat them for a few minutes in the microwave or in the air fryer at a low temperature for no more than 5 minutes.
