Once you taste the cod sticks in the air fryer, you won’t buy the captain’s ones anymore!
And the reason is simple: the ingredients, besides cod, are just eggs, breadcrumbs, and a touch of extra virgin olive oil.
There’s not even any salt because the cod is already tasty, or at least my “cod fillet” was.
But do you know what’s the nice thing? When I saw the fillet at the fish market, I immediately thought of the sticks, even though we’re two adults at home! Because sometimes, when I go to the supermarket and see the frozen section with sticks packages, I recall the times I used to prepare them for my children.
If you’re wondering why I used the air fryer, the reason is simply: I didn’t feel like frying or turning on the oven… so it seemed natural to cook them in the air fryer! The result? Good, crispy, and tasty.
So my advice is to try making them sometime, if you happen to find the right piece of cod at the fish market, or you make them with frozen fillets… they will always be healthier than the captain’s, our air fryer cod sticks.

Ingredients
- 12.3 oz cod (fillet)
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup corn flakes (unsweetened)
Tools
- Air Fryer
Steps
– Cut the cod into rectangles roughly of the same size.
– Crush the corn flakes and then add the breadcrumbs.
– Dip each stick first in the beaten egg and then in the coating, making it adhere well.
– Place the sticks in the air fryer basket, spray them with a little oil, and then cook at 392°F for 10′.
Notes:
– Corn flakes are used to give color and crispiness that only breadcrumbs can’t provide when baking or, in this case, in the air fryer. But if you don’t have them or don’t intend to buy them, use only breadcrumbs.
– In the oven, cook for 15/18′ turning them halfway through.
