Ingredients

  • 4 oranges
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 3.5 oz milk chocolate (or dark)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (or type 1)
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • powdered sugar
  • mint (leaves)

Steps

  • Wash the oranges, cut off the cap to create the base of the cups, and hollow them out using a knife or a spoon.

  • When cutting the pulp, avoid reaching the white part of the oranges (albedo) to prevent the cream from becoming bitter during cooking.

  • Melt the chocolate in a double boiler.

  • Pour the whole egg and yolk into a bowl; add sugar and mix with a hand whisk or fork.

  • Add the previously melted and cooled butter and mix.

  • Also add the sifted flour and mix.

  • Add the melted chocolate and, if desired, a tablespoon of orange juice.

  • Mix all the ingredients with the whisk.

  • Fill the oranges with the chocolate cream without reaching the edge.

  • To prevent the oranges from falling in a baking tray, I preferred to place them in a muffin mold. Bake for 18 minutes at 356°F (180°C).

  • Out of the oven, dust with powdered sugar and garnish with mint leaves.

  • Dig the spoon into the cream and enjoy the dessert.

Advice:

The cream-filled orange cups are irresistible hot, but if you have a microwave, you can also prepare them in advance and then heat them for a few minutes so that the cream returns to a fluid state.

Obviously, the orange pulp should not be wasted, you can make a great salad like this, or this one, or blend it and drink a nice juice.

To make the cups with the caps, you have two options: either stick a small piece of a toothpick under each orange with its cap, being careful when eating, or simply place the oranges on the caps because during baking the oranges slightly flatten.
