March 8 Tart for Women’s Day

The March 8 Tart for Women’s Day stands out from other desserts typically presented on this day because its shape calls to mind the number 8!

It’s a simple shortcrust pastry filled with pastry cream and decorated with blueberries, strawberries and edible flowers; in short, not the usual cake we’re used to seeing!

The historical period we are living through is not at all pleasant, but at least in our kitchens, if we can, let’s bring a bit of sweetness and color.

Personally, I’m also going through many difficult moments, and taking a little time to do what I love most helps me.

As you may have guessed, it’s not a complicated dessert: you can even buy the shortcrust pastry ready-made and if you follow the few steps I indicate below, this year you could treat yourself to something different: the March 8 Tart for Women’s Day.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (about 9 oz) pastry cream
  • 2 cups (about 11 oz) strawberries
  • blueberries
  • 9 oz shortcrust pastry
  • edible flowers (mallow)

Steps

– Prepare the bases (the shortcrust pastry and the pastry cream) the day before so you can dedicate yourself exclusively to the tart.

  • (photo 1) Make a template from cardboard or a sheet of notebook paper, cut it out and place it on the rolled-out shortcrust pastry; cut along the edges with a sharp knife (photos 2-3).

  • (photo 4) With the leftover pastry, form the borders and place them on the number; press the back of a teaspoon to make indentations and chill in the fridge while the oven heats up.

  • – Bake the base for about 15-17 minutes in a preheated oven at 356°F and let cool completely.

  • (photo 5) Fill the inside of the tart with cold pastry cream and decorate with strawberries, blueberries and edible flowers (photo 6). If you have extra shortcrust pastry, make small balls or little flowers to place on the tart (bake them for 7-8 minutes at 338°F).

Tips and variations:

The tart is stored in the refrigerator; you can change the fruit as you like.

You can also fill it with simply lightly sweetened whipped cream.

If you don’t have the time or desire to make shortcrust pastry, use ready-made pastry.
