Ingredients

savory Christmas trees-appetizer

  • 8 slices whole wheat sandwich bread
  • 6.35 oz broccoli
  • 1/4 cup spreadable fresh cheese (like Philadelphia)
  • chopped pistachios

Steps

  • – Boil the broccoli tops in salted water, then drain and mash them with a fork.

  • – Remove the crust from the bread slices, and form discs with cookie cutters of various sizes.

  • – Season the spreadable cheese with a little pepper (optional), then spread small spoonfuls on each disc with a sprinkle of chopped pistachios. Subsequently, add the broccoli. As the discs are filled, stack them on top of each other starting, of course, with the largest.

  • – Cut a strip of skin from a zucchini and, with a small cutter, cut out stars from it.

  • – Skewer each tree with a toothpick and finish with the little star.

Variations

– The spreadable cheese can be replaced with ricotta, and the broccoli with basil or pistachio pesto.
