Ugly but Good Oats and Apples

Ideal for breakfast or a light snack, the ugly but good oats and apples are gluten-free and made in 5′.

In fact, to make them you need to grate the apples, and this is the longest task; then you add the whole grain oat flakes without sugars, an egg, a pinch of cinnamon, and a bit of honey.

Just a bit of fridge time is needed to allow the oat flakes to absorb the egg and the juice from the apples that has formed, and into the oven!

Easy, right? And they are also very good!

As you already know, it is important to be aware of what and how we eat; and even if a slip happens every now and then, it is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle, eat well, and do some physical activity.

I try every day, and these ugly but good oatmeal and apple cookies are one of the many proposals you will find on the blog.

Ingredients

  • 15 oz apples (equivalent to 2 medium)
  • 1 1/2 cups whole grain oat flakes
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp acacia honey
  • ground cinnamon
  • sliced almonds
  • hazelnut granules
  • orange zest

Tools

  • Baking Mat silicone
  • Grater

Steps

  • Peel the apples and grate them julienne or, if you prefer, into small pieces and gather in a bowl.

  • Add the egg, first lightly beaten.

  • At this point, also add the whole grain oat flakes.

  • Add the honey,

  • and finally the cinnamon.

  • Mix well, cover, and place in the fridge for at least 10′.

  • Scoop spoonfuls of the mixture or, if you prefer, form patties with your hands and arrange them as you form them on a baking sheet lined with a silicone mat or parchment paper, and bake in a preheated oven at 340°F for about 18′.

Storage:

Store in the pantry for no more than 3 days.

Tips:

If desired, before baking, you can sprinkle with more cinnamon or decorate the surface with sliced almonds.

If you prefer, you can also use dried fruit directly in the dough.

I find the sweet balance very fitting also because I used rather sweet apples, but if you prefer you can add an extra tablespoon of honey to the mixture.
