Baked Pasta with Broccoli and Sausage

in

The Sicilian baked pasta with broccoli and sausage is a simple yet flavorful first course. I used anelletti, a typical pasta shape from my beautiful Sicily, which we often use to prepare classic baked pasta. This is a seasonal and super delicious variation that will win you over at the first taste! Creamy, stringy and super tasty, baked pasta with broccoli and sausage is rich in flavor, very easy to make and without béchamel, with a few ingredients you will prepare a first course that will please both adults and children. It’s also perfect for Christmas holidays, Christmas and New Year’s Eve 😀

  • Cooking methods: Stovetop, Oven
  • Cuisine: Italian

Ingredients

  • 1 lb broccoli
  • 10 oz pasta
  • 8 oz sausage
  • 7 oz primosale cheese
  • 1.75 oz Parmesan cheese
  • 0.88 oz Pecorino cheese
  • 1.75 oz extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic
  • to taste salt
  • to taste black pepper
  • to taste breadcrumbs

Steps

  • The Sicilian baked pasta with broccoli and sausage with anelletti is very simple and quick to prepare; first, clean the broccoli, detach the various florets, and cook them in salted boiling water for 10 minutes.

  • As soon as they are cooked, remove the broccoli and, in their cooking water, cook the anelletti for about ten minutes, adjusting salt; the pasta should remain al dente, if using another shape, cook it 2-3 minutes less than the time indicated on the package.

  • Remove the sausage casing and crumble it, put it in a pan and cook it for a few minutes, it should brown slightly, set it aside. In the same pan, pour the extra virgin olive oil and sauté the chopped garlic, add the broccoli and let them brown for 3-4 minutes, crushing them to mince. Then add the sausage and let everything flavor for 2-3 minutes

  • Drain the pasta al dente and season it with a little broccoli and sausage (keep a few spoons aside for the filling), grated Parmesan and Pecorino, some diced primosale, black pepper, and mix well all the ingredients, if necessary, add a little pasta cooking water, to make the anelletti creamier.

  • Transfer some pasta into a greased and breadcrumb-sprinkled baking dish, add the reserved broccoli and sausage and cheese, cover the filling with the remaining anelletti and top with some breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan.

  • Bake the baked pasta with broccoli and sausage in a preheated oven at 390°F for about 20 minutes, a nice golden crust should form.

Notes:

Baked pasta with broccoli and sausage can be stored at room temperature for a few hours or in the refrigerator for a couple of days.
