Christmas Chips

in ,

Christmas chips are a holiday side dish that is fast, easy, beautiful, and delicious, loved by everyone, both young and old, and can be enjoyed by everyone, vegetarians, vegans, and those intolerant to gluten, eggs, or lactose. I wanted to prepare a themed side dish for the holidays, so I asked my daughter Matilde what I could make, and she suggested making chips shaped like Christmas trees. And so, from my little girl’s idea, these delightful Christmas chips were born. They can be prepared in 5 minutes without even needing to boil them first; you just cut, season, and cook them in the oven or air fryer, or you can fry them for a tastier version! These Christmas chips are great as a side dish or even as an appetizer; season them with your favorite spices and prepare them for Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year’s dinner, or New Year’s Day!

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Economical
  • Preparation time: 5 Minutes
  • Portions: 4People
  • Cooking methods: Oven, Electric Oven, Air Fryer
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: Christmas, New Year's

Ingredients

  • 3 potatoes (medium)
  • 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 sprig rosemary
  • to taste salt
  • to taste spices
  • to taste black pepper

Steps

  • Christmas chips are super easy and quick to prepare. First, peel the potatoes, slice them to about a quarter-inch thick, and with Christmas-shaped cutters, cut out the shapes you prefer. I used star and Christmas tree cutters.

  • Put the Christmas chips in a bowl and season them with extra virgin olive oil, salt, black pepper, spices to taste (I used garlic powder and sweet paprika), fresh rosemary, and mix all the ingredients well.

  • Transfer the Christmas chips onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and spread them out evenly, making sure each is in contact with the base.

  • Bake the Christmas chips in a preheated oven at 392°F (200°C) for 20/25 minutes until they are golden brown.

Tips:

Christmas chips can be stored at room temperature for a few hours or in the fridge for a couple of days. You can also cook them in an air fryer at 374°F (190°C) for 18/20 minutes. Season the Christmas chips with your preferred spices. For a tastier version, you can also fry them; in this case, do not season with oil and spices, fry them after cutting, and season as you like after frying. Do not throw away the scraps; you can season them like the Christmas chips, use them for pasta and potatoes, mashed potatoes, soups, creams, or any other dish you like.
