Crunchy Corn Flakes

in ,

The crunchy corn flakes are a simple but really super tasty dessert. I had some cornflakes to use and I wanted to make them caramelized, then dip some in dark chocolate. Be careful, it is addictive! The crunchy corn flakes are crunchy and truly delicious, excellent both coated in chocolate and plain, they are a snack that lasts for days, great on their own and perfect for dunking in milk or cappuccino, try it and you’ll make it over and over again 😀

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Cheap
  • Preparation time: 10 Minutes
  • Portions: 1 Piece
  • Cooking methods: Oven, Electric Oven, Stove
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: All Seasons

Ingredients

  • 3.5 oz dark chocolate
  • 7 tbsp butter
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 3 cups cornflakes
  • to taste salt

Steps

  • The crunchy corn flakes are very simple and quick to prepare, first put the butter, brown sugar, and a pinch of salt in a saucepan and stir, let everything melt.

  • Immediately pour the mixture over the corn flakes and mix quickly. Transfer the corn flakes to a baking tray and spread them evenly, compact them and form a layer about half an inch thick.

  • Bake the crunchy corn flakes in a preheated oven at 350°F for 10-15 minutes, be careful it doesn’t brown too much.

  • Once cooked, let the crunchy corn flakes cool completely and break them with your hands. If you want, you can dip the pieces of crunchy corn flakes in melted chocolate or use the smaller pieces and/or “crumbs” to make “desert roses”, simply dip the corn flakes in chocolate and make small heaps with a teaspoon, then finish the chocolate crunchies by adding some salt flakes on top.

Notes:

The crunchy corn flakes can be stored at room temperature or in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. I wouldn’t recommend substituting brown sugar with granulated sugar, as the result and taste wouldn’t be the same, it would taste less like caramel. The amount of chocolate varies depending on how many crunchies you want to make, the quantity is indicative. In any case, you can use either dark or milk chocolate, I wouldn’t recommend white chocolate as it would be too sweet.
