Homemade Yogurt Sauce

in , ,

Homemade yogurt sauce is one of my favorite sauces, the one I make at home most often. I always have some yogurt in the fridge, and when we feel like it, in just 2 minutes, I make this perfect sauce for dressing salads, salad bowls, or inside a sandwich, to accompany meat like kebabs, meatballs, cutlets, and nuggets, fish, legumes, and vegetables. It’s also perfect for kids, contains simple ingredients, and is preservative-free. You often see it in my videos, and you often ask how to make it. It’s super versatile, you can use it in many different ways, it’s healthy, light, and creamy, and the best part, besides being super quick to make, is that it’s low in calories, especially if you use low-fat yogurt, and high in protein if you choose Greek yogurt. In short, you have no excuses not to make it!

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Cheap
  • Preparation time: 10 Minutes
  • Portions: About 7 oz of yogurt sauce
  • Cooking methods: No cooking
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: All seasons

Ingredients

  • cup yogurt
  • 1 tsp extra virgin olive oil (one teaspoon)
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 pinch salt
  • Half lemon juice
  • to taste black pepper
  • to taste chives

Steps

  • Homemade yogurt sauce is very simple and quick to prepare. For this recipe, you can use any yogurt you like. I almost always use low-fat, but whole or Greek yogurt also works well. The important thing is that it is plain and unsweetened.

  • In a bowl, put the yogurt of your choice, lemon juice, extra virgin olive oil, a pinch of salt, black pepper, chives (fresh or dried, I used the latter), and the finely chopped garlic clove. Mix all the ingredients well.

  • The homemade yogurt sauce is ready. You can enjoy it immediately or let it rest in the fridge for a while, so it will become even tastier and creamier.

Tips:

Homemade yogurt sauce can be stored in the fridge for 2/3 days. Instead of chives, you can also use parsley or mint. You can also enrich it with spices like turmeric, curry, or paprika. If you don’t like raw garlic, you can use garlic powder. In my opinion, this is the ingredient that makes this sauce so special, it wouldn’t be the same without it. However, you can omit it if you don’t like it.
