The sandwich stars are a Christmas appetizer that is super easy, very quick, and truly delicious, perfect also for a cocktail. As every year, you know I love proposing simple, creative, and scenic Christmas and New Year’s recipes (like the sandwich star I made last year) that, with little time and few ingredients, make you look great, and these sandwich stars are super tasty, plus they only need to bake for 5 minutes maximum! This time I wanted to make, always with sandwich bread (which, like puff pastry, is a perfect base for these tasty recipes) small savory stars that you can obviously fill with the stuffing you prefer, putting cold cuts, cheeses, smoked salmon, tuna, pickles, etc. I used what I had at home and I must say they were literally snapped up; I barely managed to photograph them because the urge to devour them was really too much 😀
- Difficulty: Easy
- Cost: Economical
- Preparation time: 10 Minutes
- Portions: 10 Pieces
- Cooking methods: Oven, Electric oven, Air fryer
- Cuisine: Italian
- Seasonality: Christmas, New Year
Ingredients
- 1.8 oz emmental cheese
- 1.8 oz cream cheese
- 10 slices salami
- 5 slices sandwich bread
- 3 cherry tomatoes
- as needed baby lettuce
- as needed extra virgin olive oil
Steps
The sandwich stars are super easy and quick to prepare. First, take the slices of sandwich bread and, with a medium-sized star-shaped cutter, cut out stars, trying to optimize the space. I managed to get 4 stars from each slice, resulting in a total of 20.
Place the sandwich stars on a baking sheet, drizzle with a little extra virgin olive oil, and bake in a preheated oven at 392°F for 5 minutes (or in an air fryer for 3 minutes).
Meanwhile, cut the cheese and cherry tomatoes into pieces and the salami into slices.
Remove the stars from the oven and assemble the sandwich stars: take one star, turn it over, and spread a little cream cheese on top, place two leaves of baby lettuce, two pieces of cheese, one slice of cherry tomato, and one of salami, close with another star of sandwich bread, on which you will have previously spread some cream cheese.
Continue this way to make all the sandwich stars, and they are ready to serve.
Tips:
The sandwich stars can be stored at room temperature for a few hours or in the fridge for one day. If you want to prepare them in advance, I recommend baking the bread stars, cutting all the ingredients, and assembling them the next day. You can fill the stars as you prefer. Instead of cream cheese, you can use mayonnaise.
