  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Low
  • Preparation time: 10 Minutes
  • Portions: 8 Pieces
  • Cooking methods: Oven, Electric oven, Air fryer
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: Christmas, New Year

Ingredients

  • 8 sausages
  • 1 roll puff pastry
  • 1 egg
  • to taste sesame seeds

Steps

  • Savory candy canes are super easy and quick to prepare; first, unroll the puff pastry and cut it horizontally into 8 strips of about 1.25 inches.

  • Pierce the sausages with a toothpick (this way they won’t swell during cooking) and wrap them in a strip of pastry, leaving a little space (so the sausage is visible underneath). After covering the sausage, continue to roll the pastry on itself and bend it to form a cane shape.

  • Place the savory candy canes on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, brush them with the beaten egg, sprinkle a bit of sesame seeds on top if desired, and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 20/25 minutes until they are golden brown.

Tips:

Savory candy canes can be stored in the fridge for a couple of days. You can also prepare them in advance (up to two days before) and keep them raw in the fridge, well covered with plastic wrap to prevent them from drying out. Instead of sausages, you can use sausages. You can also cook them in an air fryer at 350°F for 18/20 minutes.
