Ingredients

  • 9 oz broccoli (already cooked)
  • 7 oz sausage
  • 7 oz scamorza cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 3 tbsps extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 egg
  • to taste sesame seeds

Steps

  • The savory pie with broccoli and sausage is very simple and quick to prepare. First, clean the broccoli, separate the florets, and boil them in salted water for a few minutes. Use a fork to check the doneness.

  • Remove the casing from the sausage and brown it in a pan. Once well browned, add the cooked broccoli, chopped garlic, extra virgin olive oil, and let them blend for a couple of minutes, the broccoli should break down.

  • Remove the pan from the heat and add the grated Parmesan and half of the scamorza cheese, cut into small pieces.

  • Fill the center of the puff pastry with half of the filling, add the remaining scamorza, more filling, and cut the sides of the pastry into strips about 3/4 inch wide.

  • Fold the strips of pastry over the filling, braiding them, and brush the surface with the beaten egg. Add some sesame seeds and bake the savory pie with broccoli and sausage in a preheated oven at 392°F for about 30 minutes, until golden brown.

Tips:

The savory pie with broccoli and sausage can be stored at room temperature for a few hours or in the fridge for a couple of days. If you don’t like garlic, you can omit it. 9 oz of cooked broccoli is equivalent to about 10.5 oz of raw broccoli.
