Smoked salmon croissants are a super quick and delicious appetizer with puff pastry. It’s time to think about Christmas recipes, and this is definitely one of those dishes I’ll be sure to make again and include in the holiday menu. The salmon croissants are prepared in just a few minutes, they are flaky with a creamy filling of smoked salmon, cream cheese, and arugula. You can make the savory croissants the day before and fill them right away or, better yet, just before serving so they stay crisp. They are also great for New Year’s or a cocktail party, they will be a hit!
- Difficulty: Easy
- Cost: Cheap
- Preparation time: 10 Minutes
- Portions: 8 smoked salmon croissants
- Cooking methods: Oven, Electric oven, Air frying
- Cuisine: Italian
- Seasonality: All seasons
Ingredients
- 4.2 oz smoked salmon
- 3.5 oz cream cheese
- 1 sheet puff pastry
- 1 egg
- to taste arugula
- to taste poppy seeds
Steps
Smoked salmon croissants are super easy and quick to prepare. First, unroll the puff pastry sheet and cut it into 8 triangles. If you use round pastry, just cut it into 4 and then each quarter in half. If you have, like me, the rectangular one, cut it into 8 parts, making elongated triangles as shown in the photo.
Starting from the base, roll each piece of pastry on itself, forming a croissant. Make all the savory croissants this way, place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper (you can use the one from the pastry), brush them with a little beaten egg, add poppy seeds, and bake them in a preheated oven at 392°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes.
Remove the croissants from the oven, let them cool completely, and gently cut them in half. Fill them with cream cheese, a bit of arugula, smoked salmon, and close.
Your smoked salmon croissants are ready to enjoy!
Notes:
Smoked salmon croissants can be stored at room temperature for a couple of hours or in the fridge for a couple of days. If you want to prepare them the night before, I recommend making the croissants and filling them the next day, so they stay fresher and crisper.
