Stuffed Bread Tree

in

The stuffed Christmas bread tree is a quick, tasty, and delicious Christmas appetizer, a recipe you absolutely must prepare during these holidays. You know that every year I make scenic, beautiful, very tasty but simple Christmas recipes, so I thought of preparing a Christmas tree with small stuffed rolls. I used cheese, salami, mortadella, and olives, but of course, you can choose the filling you prefer! The stuffed bread tree is prepared in minutes, it is soft, fluffy, and without leavening; you make it and bake it right away, you will amaze and win over all your guests without spending hours in the kitchen and without hassle, you will make a great impression with little effort, and you can also do it in advance!

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Economical
  • Preparation time: 10 Minutes
  • Portions: 26 rolls
  • Cooking methods: Oven, Electric oven
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: Winter

Ingredients

  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tbsps extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 packet instant yeast for savory preparations
  • 1 tsp salt
  • as needed filling ingredients of choice
  • as needed cherry tomatoes, olives, and oregano for decoration

Steps

  • The no-leavening stuffed bread tree is very simple and quick to prepare, first put the flour, room-temperature milk, extra virgin olive oil, yeast, and salt in a bowl, and form a soft and homogeneous dough.

  • Work the dough on a surface dusted with semolina flour and divide it into 26 pieces of the same weight (about 1 oz each).

  • Roll out each piece to form a disc just under 1/4 inch thick, fill it with your preferred ingredients (I made rolls with 3 different flavors, I used mortadella and scamorza, salami and scamorza, and pitted green olives) and close, forming balls.

  • After stuffing them all, arrange the rolls on a sheet of parchment paper to form a Christmas tree and create a star at the top of the tree by pinching one ball with your fingers to create 5 points, thus forming a star.

  • Brush the surface of the rustic no-leavening stuffed bread tree with some milk, decorate as desired (I used halved cherry tomatoes, black olives, green olives, and oregano) and bake it in a preheated oven at 390°F for 20-25 minutes, it should be golden.

Notes:

The stuffed bread tree keeps at room temperature for a few hours or in the refrigerator for a couple of days. You can also prepare them in advance and keep it in the fridge, then bake it when you’re ready to serve. As mentioned, you can fill the savory rolls with ingredients you like the most, such as tuna, smoked salmon, cheeses, vegetables, sun-dried tomatoes, etc. Instead of milk, you can use water, but with milk, the rolls are much tastier and softer.
