Sweet Flat Pastries

in ,

The sweet flat pastries with apples and jam are super quick and delicious puff pastry desserts. I had two rolls of puff pastry about to expire, apples to use up, an open jar of jam in the fridge, and I decided to make some puff pastry spirals/roses that I made even more delicious by rolling them in sugar to have a beautiful golden and caramelized crust. The sweet flat pastries are fragrant, crispy, and have a creamy filling, perfect for breakfast or a snack, ideal for a sweet treat, you’ll fall in love with them. I loved them so much that I also made the savory version!

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Cheap
  • Preparation time: 10 Minutes
  • Portions: 8 Pieces
  • Cooking methods: Oven, Electric Oven, Air Fryer
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: All Seasons

Ingredients

  • 3 apples
  • 2 rolls puff pastry
  • Half lemon juice
  • to taste jam
  • to taste sugar
  • to taste powdered sugar

Steps

  • The sweet flat pastries with apples are super easy and quick to make. First, unroll a puff pastry roll and cut it into 4 vertical parts. Peel the apples, slice them thinly and season with the juice of half a lemon.

  • Spread a bit of your preferred flavor of jam/marmalade (I used strawberry) on each piece of pastry, make two layers of apples along the edge, fold the pastry in half and roll it up on itself.

  • Proceed like this to make all the sweet flat pastries, do the same with the second pastry roll, you can also change the jam flavor and choose another fruit (peach, apricot, pineapple, bananas).

  • Turn the sweet flat pastries upside down and dip them in granulated sugar, then place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, brush them with beaten egg and bake in a preheated oven at 392 degrees Fahrenheit for 20-25 minutes.

  • Remove the sweet flat pastries with apples from the oven, flip them onto a rack, remove the parchment paper, and garnish with a sprinkle of powdered sugar.

Notes:

The sweet flat pastries can be stored at room temperature for 3-4 days. You can use any flavor of jam/marmalade you like and also use other fruits as you prefer.
