Tuna Peas

in , ,

The tuna peas are truly delicious! I had quite a lot of frozen peas and used some to make this recipe which, I assure you, is simple but really tasty. The tuna peas are flavorful and creamy, perfect as an appetizer, side dish, or main course, I added carrots and onions to make them more flavorful and they disappeared quickly, they are also great inside a nice sandwich or baguette, a fresh and oven-free dish, perfect for the summer, even for a Ferragosto lunch!

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Affordable
  • Preparation time: 10 Minutes
  • Portions: 4-8 people
  • Cooking methods: Stovetop
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: All seasons

Ingredients

  • 12.3 oz peas
  • 1.25 cups water (or vegetable broth)
  • 5.3 oz canned tuna (drained weight)
  • 3 tbsps mayonnaise
  • 2 carrots
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 lemon
  • to taste salt
  • to taste black pepper

Steps

  • ● Tuna peas are very simple and quick to prepare. First, put the chopped onions and carrots, frozen peas, and water in a pan. Cover with a lid and cook everything for about 20 minutes.

  • ● Once the water has almost completely evaporated, salt the peas, add the extra virgin olive oil and let them flavor for a few seconds. Set aside and let cool.

  • ● In a bowl, place the drained tuna, mayonnaise, lemon juice, black pepper, and mix everything well. Then add the peas, carrots, and onions, and give it a good stir.

  • ● Tuna peas are ready. I recommend not enjoying them immediately but letting them rest in the fridge for at least an hour so that they become perfectly creamy and flavorful.

Notes:

Tuna peas can be stored in the fridge for a couple of days. If you don’t want to add carrots or onions, you can omit them without any issues.
