Yogurt Calzones

in

Yogurt calzones are very soft savory turnovers without leavening. The dough is prepared in 5 minutes with few and simple ingredients, with Greek yogurt as the main ingredient, which makes these rustic treats soft, fragrant, and tasty. I baked them in the oven, but you can also cook yogurt calzones in a pan with a little oil or fry them, customize them with the filling you like best, and try them right away, they are perfect as an appetizer or main course, ideal for an aperitif (even in a mini version), a party or a buffet, they are special!

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Cheap
  • Preparation time: 10 Minutes
  • Portions: 8 yogurt calzones
  • Cooking methods: Oven
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: All seasons

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups Greek yogurt
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 7 oz scamorza cheese
  • 5 oz salami
  • Half packet instant yeast for savory baking
  • 1 pinch salt
  • as needed milk (for brushing, optional)

Steps

  • ● Yogurt calzones are super easy and quick to make. First, put the flour, yeast, salt, and Greek yogurt in a bowl and form a soft, compact dough. Work it on a slightly floured work surface and divide it into 8 pieces.

  • ● Take a piece of dough and flatten it with your hands to form a circle about 1/8-3/16 inches thick. Add two slices of salami and a piece of scamorza cheese to the center and close it into a half-moon, sealing the edges well and folding them inward.

  • ● Place the Greek yogurt calzones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, brush them with a little milk, and bake them in a preheated oven at 350°F for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.

Notes:

Greek yogurt calzones can be stored at room temperature for a few hours or in the fridge for 2-3 days. You can fill them with your preferred stuffing. Brushing the turnovers with milk before baking makes them softer and more golden.
