  • Difficulty: Very easy
  • Cost: Economical
  • Preparation time: 10 Minutes
  • Portions: One donut
  • Cooking methods: Electric oven
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: All seasons

Ingredients for the Donut with Versatile Base Mix

  • 4 Eggs (large size)
  • 7 oz oz Butter
  • 7 oz oz Sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups cups All-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cups Cornstarch
  • 4 oz oz Chocolate chips (optional and substitutable)
  • 6 tbsp Water
  • 1 packet Baking powder
  • 1 Vanilla extract (in vial, optional)

Tools

  • 2 Bowls
  • Spoon
  • Kitchen scale
  • Donut mold
  • Small saucepan

Preparation

  • Start by melting the butter in a saucepan so that it will be cool by the time it needs to be added.

  • In a bowl, work the eggs with sugar, water, and vanilla aroma, stir with a simple spoon for a few minutes, then add the cooled butter and mix until well combined.

  • In a separate bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, and baking powder and sift them before mixing to avoid any lumps.

  • Combine the dry mix with the liquid mix and stir until you have a homogeneous batter. If lumps form, use an immersion blender, and they will disappear in a flash.

  • Dust and add the chocolate chips (or whatever you want to add) and stir (a trick to keep them from sinking).

  • Grease and flour a donut mold, pour the batter inside, level it, and bake in a pre-heated (static) oven at 428°F for 40 minutes. Always do the toothpick test to see if it’s time to take it out! Once baked, remove from the oven, let cool, then remove from the mold and enjoy!

  • DONUT WITH VERSATILE BASE MIX, this batter can transform into any dessert, you can make muffins, loaf cakes, donuts, and whatever your imagination suggests!

Instead of chocolate chips, you can add an equal amount of: white or milk chocolate (in flakes or chips), nuts (walnuts, hazelnuts, pine nuts, almonds, raisins), fresh fruit (pears, apples, bananas, apricots, peaches), you can replace the vanilla aroma with a tablespoon of rum, if you don’t want to use cornstarch you can use all flour, it will be less fluffy but still good.

The donut made with this batter can be stored for 5/6 days (if it lasts that long!) covered with a paper bread bag, or alternatively, you can slice it and store it in the freezer.
If you make muffins with this batter, bake for 20/25 minutes (always checking for doneness)

This batter allows the chocolate chips (or whatever you put in their place) not to sink during baking, important that whatever you add, you dust it first!
