Ingredients for Homemade Licorice Liqueur
- 6 oz licorice in pieces
- 3 cups water
- 3 cups sugar
- 18.6 fl oz pure alcohol 95°
Useful Tools
- 2 Small Pots
- Kitchen Scale
- Spoon
- Glass Bottle
- Funnel
Preparation of Licorice Liqueur
Take two small pots, put half the water into each, then pour the 6 oz of licorice into one and the 3 cups of sugar into the other. Melt the licorice first by stirring constantly over low heat, as soon as the licorice is melted remove from heat and let cool.
Then melt the sugar on low heat, stirring continuously and as soon as it starts to dissolve remove from heat (it should not caramelize) and continue to stir until completely dissolved, let cool.
Once both the licorice syrup and the sugar syrup are cool, you need to combine them, pour the liquids into a 2-liter bottle, seal tightly, and shake well to mix and blend the two syrups.
Once the two syrups are combined and mixed, pour the alcohol into the bottle as well and shake the bottle again to mix. Now close the bottle tightly and let it rest in a dark place for 3 days (it can be consumed immediately, but resting is better); shake the bottle twice a day until the liqueur is ready to be consumed.
TIPS
The licorice liqueur is excellent as it is or even served cold in the summer, also ideal for creating an accompanying sauce for a salt-crusted pork tenderloin or as a topper on ice cream (obviously not for kids), I also recommend trying it on toasted nuts, you’ll hear how good it is!
