  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: All Seasons

Ingredients for Red Wine Pears

  • 22 oz Coscia pears (mini size)
  • 3 1/4 cups Rosso Piceno red wine
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Useful Tools

  • Pot
  • Spoon
  • Corkscrew
  • Skimmer
  • Bowl
  • Cling Film
  • Small Bowls

Steps to Make Red Wine Pears

  • Start by washing the mini Coscia pears thoroughly and drying them carefully so as not to damage them. Make sure to leave the skin and stem if they have one.

  • In a stainless steel pot, pour the red wine, add the sugar and cinnamon, and stir quickly. Add the pears.

  • Put on high heat, and once it starts boiling, calculate 10 minutes of cooking for the mini pears. After 10 minutes, remove them with the skimmer and place them in a large glass bowl to cool.

  • Continue cooking the wine, increase the heat to the maximum, and let it reduce by two-thirds (stir occasionally). To make it easier, you should have just over half left. Once reduced, let it cool in the pot.

  • When both the wine and pears are well chilled, pour the wine reduction into the bowl with the pears, cover with cling film, and refrigerate for at least 5 hours before serving.

  • When serving the red wine pears, place 2 in each glass bowl and drench them with 4 tablespoons of reduction, or serve the red wine reduction in a separate cup, and enjoy!

Tips

Red wine pears, in addition to being a great dessert for the end of a meal, can also be used to decorate a cake.

They need 5 hours of rest in the fridge, but if you leave them overnight, it’s even better!

If you want to make them more indulgent, you can add a dollop of whipped cream!
