Ingredients for tuna and caper swirls
- 2 slices Whole wheat bread (use crustless bread, the type for sandwiches with rectangular slices)
- 1 tablespoon Pickled capers
- 3 oz Tuna in oil
- 1 tablespoon Mayonnaise
Tools
- Bowl
- Spoon
- Knife
- Parchment paper
- Plastic wrap
Preparation of tuna and caper swirls
Lay the slices of whole wheat bread on parchment paper side by side along the long edge. Cover with another sheet of parchment paper and, with the help of a rolling pin, flatten them well. Set aside, covered.
Take a cutting board and a sharp knife and manually chop the capers (after squeezing them) and the tuna (after draining it), chop everything very finely and place this mixture in a bowl. (It is better to chop by hand because a food processor would make a smooth cream, which is not practical for this recipe)
Add the mayonnaise to the tuna and caper mixture and mix everything thoroughly.
Take the flattened bread and spread the prepared mixture over it. Spread it over the entire surface, roll from the narrower side to form a roll, wrap the bread roll in plastic wrap, and place it in the fridge for 1 hour before slicing.
After the resting time in the fridge, take the roll and cut into swirls about 1 inch wide (it makes 6 pieces). Serve the swirls with a good aperitif and voilà, you’re done! Enjoy your meal!
Useful tips
You can store the tuna and caper swirls in the fridge wrapped in plastic wrap until ready to serve. You can add 3 oil-packed anchovies (regular or spicy) to the filling for a stronger flavor. You can also add some chives.
