POLENTA BALLS

in

Have you ever had leftover polenta from a dinner? Today I want to show you how to prepare polenta balls, a truly delicious appetizer with leftover polenta enriched with pecorino romano.

A delicious finger food made with very few and simple ingredients.

This time too I made a video recipe for you! You can find it HERE on Tik Tok or HERE on Instagram. Make sure to follow me if you haven’t already!

  • Difficulty: Very easy
  • Preparation time: 15 Minutes
  • Portions: 4 people
  • Cooking methods: Frying
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: All seasons

Ingredients

  • 10.5 oz cooked polenta
  • 3 tbsps pecorino romano
  • 3 tbsps breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • pepper
  • peanut oil (for frying)

Tools

  • Potato masher

Steps

  • Cut the polenta into pieces and place in the potato masher. Collect the “pulp” in the bowl

  • Add the egg, pecorino romano, breadcrumbs, and a pinch of pepper. Do not add salt, as the polenta already contains it and the pecorino is very salty

  • Mix carefully until a homogeneous and compact mixture forms, if it’s too soft add another tablespoon of breadcrumbs

  • Form balls and roll each in the breadcrumbs

  • Heat the oil to a temperature of 320°F in a high-sided saucepan. Submerge a few balls at a time and fry until golden. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a plate lined with paper towels. Serve immediately and enjoy your meal!
