The Coca cola float, or coke float, is a drink made with cola and ice cream and is part of the category of drinks called “ice cream floats,” which are prepared with ice cream and soda or with ice cream, syrup, and sparkling water. It is said that the ice cream float was invented by Robert McCay Green in Philadelphia in 1874 during the semicentennial celebration of the Franklin Institute. On a particularly hot day, Mr. Robert McCay Green ran out of ice for the flavored drinks he was selling and replaced it with vanilla ice cream, thus inventing a new beverage.

Preparation COCA COLA FLOAT – COKE FLOAT
First of all, chill the glasses you will use to serve the Coca cola.
Place the bottle or cans of Coca cola, which you have already kept in the fridge, in the freezer for 15–20 minutes to get a very cold drink.
Pour the Coca cola into the glasses, filling them halfway. In each glass, gently add 1/2 tablespoon of ice cream and stir gently. Add 1 tablespoon of ice cream to each glass or, even better, a scoop using an ice cream scoop.
If needed, add more cola. Do it slowly to avoid foam from spilling over the glass.
Serve the Coca cola float with straws and spoons and… enjoy your drink!!!
Notes
Experiment by varying the flavor of the ice cream (fior di latte, cherry, lemon, strawberry…) to find out which is your favorite coke float!
