Strawberry Liqueur

Homemade strawberry liqueur, a true delight. Making strawberry liqueur is very easy, especially because, if you are used to making fruit liqueurs, you will notice that the amounts of water, sugar, and alcohol are more or less always the same. What changes is, of course, the type of fruit you want to use. Sure, you can decide to make your liqueur more alcoholic by adjusting the proportions between water and alcohol, or slightly decrease or increase the amount of sugar, according to your taste. Some people flavor the strawberry liqueur (also known as fragolino or fragoletto) with vanilla or some other aroma, but I prefer the recipe I propose today, very simple and that highlights only the flavor of strawberries.

Ingredients for Strawberry Liqueur (about 1 liter)

  • 14 oz strawberries
  • 13.5 fl oz pure alcohol (96°)
  • 2.5 cups water
  • 14 oz sugar

Recommended Tools

  • Jar
  • Sieve
  • Cheesecloth
  • Glass Bottle

Preparation of STRAWBERRY LIQUEUR

  • Wash the strawberries and dry them; remove the hull and cut them into pieces.

Place them in a glass jar and add the alcohol.

    Strawberry liqueur preparation
  • Close the jar with a lid and let it macerate for a period ranging from 3 to 7 days (I did 4 days) in a dark place away from heat sources, for example inside the pantry. Once or twice a day, shake the container to favor the infusion process; you will see that the liquid will become more and more pink and the strawberries lighter.

After the maceration days, prepare the syrup: put the water and sugar in a small pot, stir, and bring to a boil. As soon as the water is near boiling, the sugar will be completely dissolved, then remove from the heat and let it cool.

  • Filter the strawberry-flavored alcohol into a bowl, then filter it a second time through a sieve lined with a cheesecloth.

  • Add the now cold sugar syrup and mix well.

Bottle the liqueur and store it in the refrigerator.

  • Let the strawberry liqueur mature in the fridge for about a week before enjoying it.

Notes

You can create a more alcoholic liqueur by inverting the doses of alcohol and water (600 ml alcohol and 400 ml water) or 500 ml of water and 500 ml of alcohol.
