Advice and Substitutions
Can I substitute oat flour? Yes, with all-purpose flour or spelt flour.
Can I use all granulated sugar instead of brown sugar? Yes.
Can I replace water with plant-based milk or regular milk? Yes.
Can I substitute chocolate chips with a finely chopped chocolate bar? Yes.
Can I reduce the sugar? Up to a maximum of 2 tablespoons less.
Can I use whole wheat flour? Yes.
Can I use gluten-free flour? I have no experience in this matter. If you know your flours, you certainly know their yield in baking. I rarely make gluten-free recipes as I don’t need to use gluten-free products, so I can’t say how these cookies will turn out. Perhaps, and I say ‘perhaps,’ here you could try rice flour instead of all-purpose flour.
Can I use a sweetener instead of sugar? I have no experience in this matter. Sugar in desserts is not only for sweetening but also for creating structure, absorbing moisture, adding color, and preserving. If you eliminate it or reduce it significantly, the result might seem acceptable (people often say it works the same), but in reality, you’ve altered the texture of the final product.
