Ingredients

To color part of the dough, I used a natural powder in sachets by Rebecchi that I find at the supermarket. It is an extract based on black currant and radish that dyes red. Being a natural dye, it fades a lot during cooking, so the two teaspoons I added are few. For a more intense effect, it is better to use the entire sachet.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 5 1/2 tbsp rice oil (or another vegetable oil of choice or 1/2 cup melted butter)
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp red food coloring powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Tools

To transfer the dough into the mold, you can use either two piping bags. Or a double piping bag or two pitchers with spouts or simply spoons but it gets a bit messier.

  • 1 Mixer Kitchen Aid Artisan
  • 1 Bowl
  • 1 Spatula
  • 2 Piping Bags
  • 1 Silicone Mold

Steps

  • In the mixer bowl, beat the eggs with the sugar until you obtain a nice smooth mixture. Add the flour, milk, oil or melted butter, vanilla extract, and mix well. Add the baking powder and mix. Divide the dough into two parts and add the natural red food coloring to one of the parts. Transfer the mixture into piping bags or spouted pitchers and pour it into the slightly greased mold (for molds of this type, it is better to use a non-stick spray) alternating the two colors. Bake the roses in a preheated oven at 350°F for 25 minutes. Once ready, check the cooking with a cake tester or a skewer. Remove the mold from the oven and let the treats cool inside before removing them; otherwise, they risk breaking. Do not underestimate this step and do not rush: I say this because the first time, I broke almost all of them. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve.
