Yogurt Banana Split is a delightful dessert perfect for summer. The original American recipe includes, as you all know, ice cream, usually three scoops, chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry, then whipped cream and candied cherries, a chocolate or strawberry topping, and chopped hazelnuts. But I didn’t have any ice cream at home and wanted to prepare a tasty and substantial snack. So, I made do with what I had. A banana, an indispensable ingredient; otherwise, what kind of banana split would it be? A few spoonfuls of plain Greek yogurt, sliced peaches, chocolate chips, and a drizzle of 100% hazelnut cream. In short, a banana split my way. However, I promise to prepare the traditional version for you. In the meantime, enjoy this yogurt banana split: a bit lighter.

Curiosities

The banana split is known to have originated in the United States in 1904. However, who invented it remains unclear. It seems it was offered by a Boston street vendor who served them unpeeled but split and filled with ice cream. Later, a student from the University of Pittsburgh, working in the family ice cream shop, removed the peel to make the dessert more attractive and easier to eat. He presented it in response to a customer’s challenge for something new. However, many claim to have invented the banana split, so there is no certainty about it. The name refers to the cut: split, in English, means “divided.”

Is it called a banana split or the banana split? I couldn’t find out. Some call it feminine, others masculine, but I couldn’t find an explanation. Do you know?
