Ingredients to prepare the cake with cream and apples

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 0.7 oz cornstarch
  • 2.65 oz powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.75 oz powdered sugar
  • 3.2 oz butter (cold from the fridge)
  • 1 egg
  • 2 apples
  • to taste brown sugar

How to prepare the cake with cream and apples

  • Start by preparing the cake with cream and apples. First, make the pastry cream by pouring the egg yolk into a saucepan,

  • the sugar,

  • the cornstarch,

  • and the milk gradually, stirring to prevent lumps.

  • Heat over the stove, stirring constantly,

  • bring to a boil and thicken,

  • then transfer the cream to a bowl and let it cool.

  • Pour the flour and cold butter from the fridge into a bowl,

  • work with your hands to obtain a sandy mixture,

  • add the egg,

  • and knead until you get a firm and compact dough

  • Transfer the shortcrust pastry between two sheets of parchment paper

  • and roll it out into a rectangle, then refrigerate.

  • Peel the apples,

  • cut them in half, remove the core, and slice thinly.

  • Take the shortcrust pastry out of the fridge and cut it in half, spread the pastry cream on one half

  • and place the apple slices,

  • cover with the other piece of shortcrust pastry, don’t worry if it doesn’t perfectly match the bottom,

  • then cut into squares. I cut the longer side into 5 parts and the shorter side into 3 parts.

  • sprinkle with brown or granulated sugar and bake in a preheated static oven at 355°F for 20 minutes.

  • When the cake with cream and apples is ready, take it out of the oven, let it cool completely, and dust with powdered sugar.
