  • 2 tbsp breadcrumbs
  • to taste parsley
  • to taste salt
  • 14 oz peeled tomatoes (or tomato sauce)
  • to taste extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic
  • leaves basil

How to prepare meatballs in sauce

  • Let’s start preparing the meatballs in sauce; boil the potato in boiling water or microwave as you prefer. In a large pan, pour a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and add the garlic clove, let it flavor for a few minutes, and then add the peeled tomatoes, break them with a fork, and let them simmer over low heat with the lid while you prepare the meatballs.

  • Pour the ground beef into a bowl, mix it with a fork, add the previously boiled and mashed potato, the chopped parsley, a pinch of salt, and the breadcrumbs. Mix the meat well to incorporate all the ingredients, and then knead by hand to blend everything nicely.

  • With your hands, form meatballs the size of an apricot. Remove the garlic clove from the tomato and place the meatballs in the sauce, also adding the basil leaves. If the sauce is too thick, add some water, and cook the meatballs for 20 minutes with the lid, turning them occasionally for even cooking.

  • Once cooked, serve grandma’s meatballs in sauce hot with the cooking sauce, and if you like, serve some slices of bread for dipping.
