Ingredients to make Tomato Pastries
- 1 roll rectangular puff pastry
- 3.5 oz tomato sauce
- to taste salt
- to taste extra virgin olive oil
- 2 tsps oregano
- 6 slices smoked scamorza cheese
- 6 slices cooked ham
- 1 egg
How to make Tomato Pastries
Let’s start preparing the Tomato Pastries, pour the tomato sauce into a bowl and season with a pinch of salt,
oregano
and a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil,
mix all the ingredients well.
Unroll the puff pastry and cut the shorter side in half and the longer side into 3 parts to get 6 rectangles.
Place a slice of smoked scamorza cheese on each rectangle,
a slice of cooked ham,
and some tomato sauce.
Fold each filled rectangle into a triangle and press well with your fingers on the edges,
fold over the edges
and run the tines of a fork along to seal well and ensure they don’t open during baking.
Place the pastries on the baking tray and brush with some beaten egg
finally, add a sprinkle of oregano,
bake in a preheated static oven at 356°F for 20 minutes. When the tomato pastries are ready, remove them from the oven and serve them hot or at room temperature.
How to store Tomato Pastries
Store Tomato Pastries at room temperature for 1 day and they will remain crisp; after that, the puff pastry tends to become chewy. You can store them in the refrigerator for 3 days.
