Ingredients for Traditional Fried Pizza Bites Recipe
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 oz fresh baker's yeast
- 3 pinches salt
- to taste water
- 1 cup canned tomatoes
- 1 clove garlic
- 12 leaves basil
- 3 pinches salt
- 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 7 oz mozzarella
- to taste vegetable oil
Preparation of Traditional Fried Pizza Bites Recipe
Dissolve the baker’s yeast in half a glass of warm water.
Place the flour on the work surface, add salt, the dissolved yeast, and start kneading with your fingertips, pouring in little water at a time.
Continue to work the dough with your hands until it becomes soft and elastic, shape it into a ball, cover it with a towel, and let it rise for about an hour in a warm place.
Dice the mozzarella and wash the basil leaves, drying them gently.
Prepare the tomato sauce by pouring 3 tablespoons of olive oil into a pan with the garlic clove and let it sauté for a few minutes. Add the strained canned tomatoes, salt, and cook over moderate heat with a covered pan for 20 minutes. Remove the garlic.
Place the dough for the pizza bites on the work surface.
Flatten it with the palm of your hand, then divide it into 12 parts and form balls with floured hands. Use a rolling pin to flatten the dough balls into small discs.
In a deep pan, heat plenty of vegetable oil, and when it’s hot, dip a few discs at a time.
Let the pizza bites brown on both sides, using a slotted spatula. Then place them on absorbent paper.
Finally, top them with tomato sauce, diced mozzarella, and a pinch of basil.
Place the pizza bites in a hot oven for a few minutes, so the mozzarella melts. Serve hot.
Tips
– You can enrich the topping of the pizza bites with pieces of sweet sausage or, if you prefer a more lively taste, with pieces of spicy sausage.
– If you want a simpler topping, you can opt for the sauce with a pinch of oregano. In this case, you do not need to bake the pizza bites.
