Today I want to share with you a fabulous recipe for pretzels with pudding or pudding pretzels, or as they are called here in Germany, pudding plunder. When we talk about pretzels, we immediately think of the salty ones from Oktoberfest. However, there are also sweet pretzels in Germany, and this is just one version. They are delicious treats that can be prepared in a little over 30 minutes, and the final effect is simply fantastic. They are the perfect sweets to serve with afternoon coffee, but also great for breakfast. Let’s see how they are prepared in the following recipe.
- Difficulty: Very easy
- Cost: Very cheap
- Preparation time: 10 Minutes
- Portions: 6
- Cooking methods: Electric oven
- Cuisine: German
- Seasonality: All seasons
Ingredients
- 1 roll of croissant dough (or puff pastry)
- 2 cups milk
- 1 vanilla pudding mix
- 1.4 oz sugar
- 2 tbsps powdered sugar
- 1 tsp hot water
Tools
- 1 Whisk
- 1 Saucepan
- 1 Parchment paper
- 1 Piping bag
Steps
Start preparing your pretzels with pudding by making the pudding; usually, the instructions are on the package, so I recommend following those.
If there are no instructions, I suggest dissolving half of the milk with the pudding mix and sugar, pouring it into the saucepan, and letting it cook over moderate heat, then adding the remaining milk and bringing it to a boil.
When the pudding is thick, let it cool very well, perhaps by placing plastic wrap on the surface of the cream so it does not dry out.
When the cream is well chilled, preheat the oven to 392°F static to warm it up.
Roll out the croissant dough and cut into 6 equal parts along the length. Then cut each strip in half so that you end up with 12 strips of equal size.
Place 2 strips on top of each other and twist them together to form a pretzel directly on the parchment paper.
When you have made all the pretzels, you can brush them with milk or beaten egg, but this step is optional.
Now pour the well-chilled pudding into a piping bag and fill the vacant part of the pretzels as if to fill them.
Then bake your Pretzels with pudding in the hot oven for about 15 minutes. As soon as they have a slightly golden color, they are ready.
Now prepare the glaze by pouring the powdered sugar into a small bowl and adding the hot water. Stir until you get a smooth glaze and drizzle it sparingly on your pretzels with pudding.
At this point, let the pretzels cool very well before serving. They should be very cold to detach perfectly from the parchment paper, and enjoy them; they are fabulous.

You can serve the pretzels with pudding with fresh fruit like strawberries, but also with canned fruit like apricots and bake them together.
I used the pudding mix, but of course you can also prepare a custard or homemade pudding.
