Vegan Carnival Fried Dough Balls

We are in the middle of Carnival season so it seemed fitting to make a themed recipe ☺️. I made the Carnival fried dough balls in a vegan version, so without eggs, milk, or butter. I have to say they turned out so good that they disappeared in a second. They are delicious treats and very easy to prepare with simple ingredients accessible to everyone.

Ingredients for Vegan Carnival Fried Dough Balls:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tbsps sugar
  • 2/3 cup plant-based milk (To taste)
  • 1 tsp dry yeast
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 lemon zest
  • 1 orange zest

Steps

The preparation of vegan Carnival fried dough balls is very simple and quick, watch the video HERE.

  • In a pan, put the flour, sugar, and yeast. Add the plant-based drink, oil, then mix and knead until you get a homogeneous dough. Cover and let it rise for about an hour.

  • Filling preparation:

    Mix the sugar, grated lemon, and orange zest.

    After about an hour, roll out the dough on a sheet of parchment paper using a little flour to help.

  • Place the prepared filling on top and spread it over the entire surface. Roll it up and cut it into slices. Fry the dough balls in hot oil for a few minutes.
