Whole Wheat Spiral Apple Tart

A delicious vegan tart made without eggs, milk, or butter, using whole wheat flour, then filled with an apple filling and shaped like a spiral. Well, you’ve surely noticed that I really like spirals of all kinds, from Sponge Cake ones to savory ones! A very simple dessert to make, perfect for starting the day accompanied by a cup of tea or coffee! Of course, if you want to replace the whole wheat flour for various reasons, you can do so using about 120% of white flour. Instead of apples, you can use any type of jam or spread you like!

Ingredients for the Whole Wheat Spiral Apple Tart:

  • 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • Half packet baking powder
  • 1/2 cup plant-based milk
  • vanilla
  • 5 apples
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • ground cinnamon

  • In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, and baking powder. Add the oil, milk, a bit of vanilla, and mix.

  • Knead until you get a homogeneous dough. Wrap it in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 30 min.

    Preparation of the filling:

    Wash, peel, and grate the apples.

  • Place them in a pan, add sugar and a bit of cinnamon, and cook for about 10 min on high heat.

  • Let cool. Take the dough from the fridge and roll it out on a sheet of parchment paper. Place the apples on top, spreading and leveling them with a spatula.

  • Cut 5/6 strips of about the same size. Roll the first strip onto itself, continue with the second. Place them at the center of the mold.

  • Add the other strips around to form the spiral. Bake at 356°F for about 40 minutes.
