Chocolate and coconut salami without eggs and butter. One of the most delicious traditional desserts that is always brought to the table during festive occasions, relying on the ease of execution and unique aesthetic appeal.
Perfect for lunch or dinner, and as it’s a dessert much appreciated by both kids and adults, it’ll be gone in no time and is easy to serve sliced.
Its preparation is very quick, so it’s also suitable for enjoying at any time of the day.
The chocolate and coconut salami without eggs can be easily stored in the fridge for several days to then serve at snack time or even after a meal.
I mean, it must have happened to everyone at least once to be surprised at home by a friend or a family member who stops by unannounced… and what do we do?
Caught in a panic because, as usual, the pantry is empty, the fridge too, the cookie jar as well, so what do we offer alongside a good coffee.
Well… open the freezer and discover a whole new world!
I recommend freezing chocolate salami already sliced so it’ll be ready in an instant!
Of course, if you don’t like it, you can omit the coconut or replace it with chopped hazelnuts or almonds.
It’s impressive on tables even though it’s quite simple, but it’s truly delicious and kids love this dessert.

Ingredients for Chocolate and Coconut Salami
- 10.6 oz digestive biscuits (or gluten-free or sugar-free)
- 9.5 oz 70% dark chocolate (or lactose-free or 85% sugar-free)
- 2.1 oz grated coconut (+as needed for coating)
- 1/3 cup oat milk (or any plant-based milk or regular milk)
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
Tools
- Parchment Paper
- Aluminum Foil
- Bowl
- Food Scales
Steps for Chocolate and Coconut Salami
First, melt the dark chocolate in a bain-marie.
(I used dark chocolate, but milk or white chocolate is fine too).
Meanwhile, coarsely crumble the biscuits.
(I usually use the bottom of a glass, but you can also use parchment paper and a rolling pin or a freezer bag).
Set them aside.
In a fairly large bowl, combine the melted chocolate, oil, grated coconut, plant-based milk, and finally the crumbled biscuits. Mix well.
Pour the mixture onto a sheet of parchment paper, giving it the typical elongated shape, and close like a candy, shaping with your hands.
Now wrap it for more security with an aluminum foil sheet as well.
Place in the fridge for at least 6 hours.
Take it out 5 minutes before serving, roll it in coconut, then slice and serve!
(I usually prepare it well in advance, even the night before, so it sets well).
Enjoy your meal
Tips and Advice
Replace the milk amount with an equal amount of liquor to give your chocolate salami a stronger taste. You can choose between rum, brandy, or whiskey. And why not a coffee or chocolate liqueur to enhance the flavor!
Store in the fridge. It can be frozen.
A tip: I’ve found it works well to prepare it the night before.
