Chocolate truffles are dark chocolate treats that are very easy to make and great served with coffee for a snack, breakfast, or as a dessert.

They are perfect for parties or buffets, as they are single-serving and can be eaten in one bite. Kids will love them.

A great way to recycle leftover cookies or cake. I used cookies, but you can use whatever you want.

They are desserts that require very few ingredients, so it’s essential to choose top-quality ones.

To be honest, the key ingredient in this recipe is indeed the chocolate, used both in dark and milk versions, which must be of excellent quality.

These are very simple chocolates to make, so even beginners can prepare them.

They can be stored in the refrigerator for a few days, so you can enjoy them one at a time whenever you want. I flavored them with rum for an extra touch of flavor, but you can choose your preferred aroma or choose not to add any.

I then decorated them with cocoa powder, a delicious finger food dessert.

It’s worth mentioning that for the coating, you can choose the flavors you prefer, besides the classic cocoa…… you can use shredded coconut and pistachio crumbs (also to create a color contrast), chocolate sprinkles for a crunchy touch, but you can choose truly anything.

Ingredients for Chocolate Truffles

  • 5.3 oz 55% dark chocolate (or lactose-free or sugar-free at 85%)
  • 3 cups dry biscuits (or gluten-free or sugar-free diet)
  • 2.1 oz hazelnuts (chopped)
  • 1/3 cup oat beverage (or plant-based milk or regular milk)
  • 3.4 tbsp vegetable oil
  • to taste rum (optional)
  • to taste unsweetened cocoa powder (or sweetened or shredded coconut for coating)

Tools

  • Bowl
  • Kitchen Scale
  • Blender

Steps for Chocolate Truffles

  • Break the biscuits almost to a powder, you can break them either by hand using a meat tenderizer or rolling pin, or with a blender, then pour them into a bowl and set aside.

  • Chop the dark chocolate into small pieces, place it in a bowl and add the milk. Melt in the microwave or in a double boiler, then add the sunflower seed oil and stir to create a smooth cream.

  • In a fairly large bowl, combine the melted chocolate, oil, chopped hazelnuts, plant-based beverage, and finally the crumbled biscuits.

(If you like, you can add a bit of rum).

Mix well until you get a firm dough.

  • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap.

Let it cool in the fridge for about 2 hours.

After the resting time, retrieve the dough.

    Shape into balls.

(You can make quite a few depending on the size you decide to give them)

  • With your hands, form balls the size of a walnut, then roll in unsweetened cocoa as desired.

    Place on a tray.

Chill the truffles in the fridge for 2 hours until ready to serve.

Tips

You can prepare them the day before and store them in the refrigerator until ready to serve. With this recipe, you’ll make 30/35 depending on the size you decide to make the balls. I recommend making them the size of a walnut, the ideal size to eat in one bite.

If you like, you can add half a vial of rum. Not everyone likes the alcoholic flavor in desserts, and if you have kids, you can omit it, they will still be good. I promise.

You can choose between rum, brandy, or whiskey. It’s up to you! And why not choose a coffee or chocolate liqueur to enhance the flavor!

Store in the fridge. They can be frozen.

As a tip, I found it convenient to make them the evening before.

FAQ (Questions and Answers)

  • What cookies can I use?

Digestive, marie, plain biscuits, gluten-free or egg-free biscuits, or light ones.

  • What chocolate can I use?

It would be best to use 55% dark chocolate, but it depends on taste. Honestly, extra dark isn’t ideal for children. If you have sugar issues, use 85% chocolate.

  • How can I replace hazelnut crumbs?

With shredded coconut or pistachio crumbs.
