Christmas Star Cookies

Christmas Star Cookies are original shortbread treats in the shape of a Christmas star. Very easy, perfect also as a gift!!

The special thing about these treats is that one point of the star embraces candies or almonds, creating a really cute effect.

Once baked and cooled, the cookies are decorated with melted chocolate to create the eyes and mouth of the stars.

The effect will be really cute: it will look like the star is hugging.

To make these delicious cookies you need a simple shortcrust pastry, preferably butter-based as it is more malleable.

A handful of almonds or candied cherries or candies and a teaspoon of dark chocolate for decoration.

These Christmas cookies are perfect to prepare with your children, as they are fun and will entertain them.

They are also perfect as a gift for friends or relatives during the Christmas holidays.

Wrap them with colored ribbon, and everyone will be amazed!

Let’s get help from our children or grandchildren to decorate them even if they come out a bit crooked with eyes and mouths, but they are beautiful nonetheless.

Christmas Star Cookies

  • First prepare the shortbread: mix softened butter, sugar, egg, and lemon zest in a bowl and beat together, then also incorporate sifted flour, cornstarch, and baking powder.
Wrap with plastic wrap and let rest in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.

  • Take the shortbread dough and work it on the work surface.

Roll it out with a rolling pin and cut the cookies with the star-shaped cutter.

  • Now take an almond or a candied cherry or smart candies and place it on a star point, either right or left. Fold the tip of the cookie over the almond as if to hug it, pressing lightly.

Tips

The cookies can be stored for a week in a tin box. The raw shortcrust can be stored in the fridge for 3-4 days. Alternatively, it can be frozen for up to 1 month.

If the shortcrust is too soft, you can let it rest in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to make it more compact.
